About Acupuncture

Acupuncture: The method of treatment using sterile, hair-like needles to stimulate acupuncture points and/or tissues to effect change.

Acupuncture seeks to restore balance and harmony into the body.

That's wonderful, but how can that help with my hurt shoulder? Or the stress I have been feeling from life? Or the back pain that I have been dealing with for years? Balance and harmony? I need advil and beer!

True, the terms balance and harmony seem to offer little in the ways of treatment for the pains of life. In reality, these core principles of Acupuncture are the reason it is so effective for pain and other issues. Restoring balance back to a painful body is seeking to return normal function from a state of dysfunction. When we are in pain, the pain stems from a dysfunctional system in our body. That system could be as simple as a joint that is stiff, or as complex as chronic nerve damage. Acupuncture seeks to "reprogram" the body to return back to a state of function and balance. Think of a river, if we allow rocks and trees to fall into our river eventually the water flow becomes blocked. Only by removing those things causing blockages can the river flow freely once again. Acupuncture uses the body's natural healing systems to remove blockages and restore health and function.

If you were to get acupuncture a few thousand years ago, you would be faced with sharp thick pieces of metal and stone; wondering if the stiff shoulder is worth the holes! Nowadays we use single-use, sterile, HAIR-LIKE needles that do not leave a mark after treatment. While they do break the skin, and can be inserted into the muscle tissue or joint, they are pain-free.

Acupuncture needles are pain-free???

Yes! Acupuncture needles are smaller and thinner than any needle in normal life. 20 acupuncture needles can fit inside of a hypodermic needle! While we say that acupuncture needles are pain-free, they are not sensation-free. Some people experience them like a warmth feeling, or tingling, some have reported to feel pressure on insertion, and even some have reported that it can feel a bit burning but calms down quickly. Once the needles are in, there should be little to no sensation from the needle sites.

All needles are single use, disposed into a bio-hazard bin.
